Security & compliance
Undersign is designed to keep signing requests and documents secure while maintaining a clear record of signing activity. The platform supports Simple Electronic Signatures and Advanced Electronic Signatures, allowing you to choose the signing approach appropriate for your workflow.
Security at a glance
Undersign uses security controls across the signing process, from account access and document handling to signing records and completed documents.
| Area | How Undersign supports it |
|---|---|
| Document security | Documents are protected and access is restricted to authorized users and recipients. |
| Account security | Account access is protected through authentication and controlled access to account resources. |
| Signing records | Signing activity is recorded with details such as signer information, actions, and timestamps. |
| Audit trail | Each signature request maintains a record of relevant signing events, providing a history of what happened during the signing process. |
| Completion certificate | Completed requests can include a certificate summarizing the signing activity and participants. |
| API security | API access is controlled using account-specific API keys that can be activated or deactivated. |
See Document security and Audit trail for more information.
Electronic signatures
Undersign supports two electronic signature types:
Simple Electronic Signature
A Simple Electronic Signature (SES) provides a straightforward way for a signer to electronically indicate their agreement or approval.
It is suitable for everyday signing workflows where a simple electronic signature is appropriate.
Advanced Electronic Signature
An Advanced Electronic Signature (AdES) provides additional signer identification and signature controls compared with a simple electronic signature. It is intended for workflows where stronger evidence linking the signature to the signer is required.
The signing method and available identity controls depend on the signature workflow being used.
See Electronic signatures for details on the supported signature types.
Signing evidence
Undersign records signing activity as the request progresses. Depending on the workflow, this can include information about the signer, signing actions, timestamps, and the resulting completed document.
A completed signing request can also include a completion certificate, providing a concise summary of the signing event. The detailed audit trail provides the underlying event history.
Security is part of the signing workflow
Security in Undersign is not limited to the final signature. Access controls, signer information, signing activity, document handling, audit records, and completion evidence work together to provide a traceable signing process from the initial request through completion.
