Quickstart: send your first signing request

Get up and running with Undersign in about five minutes. This guide walks you through the complete process: from creating your account to sending a signing request and completing it yourself.

No credit card required. You can sign up for free and send a signing request to yourself using any email address.

Follow these steps

Follow the steps in order to complete your first signing request. Each step is explained in more detail in the relevant sections of the documentation.

The signing flow

Follow these steps to send and complete your first signing request. Each step is covered in more detail elsewhere in the documentation.

  1. Create your account

Open Undersign and sign up using any email address, or continue with your Google account. See Create your account for details.

  2. Verify your email

If you signed up with an email address, click the verification link we send you. If you signed up with Google, your account is already verified.

  3. Log in

Sign in to Undersign using your email and password, or continue with Google if you signed up with a Google account.

  4. Configure your email

Add your sender email and SMTP credentials under Account → Email & SMTP so signing notifications can be sent from your email address. See Configure your email.

  5. Upload a PDF

Upload the contract, form, agreement, or other PDF you want to send for signing. Undersign keeps your original file and works from a copy.

  6. Create a template

Turn the uploaded document into a reusable template, so the document layout and signing fields are ready whenever you need to send it. See Create a template.

  7. Add fields

Add signature, date, text, checkbox, and other fields to the document where information or action is required. See Add fields.

  8. Define the signer and their fields

Add the person who needs to sign and assign the fields they need to complete. You can also add prefilled fields for information that should already be populated before the signer opens the document. See Add signers.

  9. Send the signing request

Click Send. Undersign creates the signing request and sends the signer an email with a secure link to review and sign. See Send for signature.

  10. Sign the document

The signer opens the secure signing page, reviews the document, completes the required fields, and signs. See Complete your first signature for the signer's view.

  11. Completed document

Once all required signers have completed their fields, the signing request is marked Completed. The completed document, audit trail, and completion certificate are generated automatically.

Other ways to send for signature

The flow above covers a typical signing request. Depending on your workflow, Undersign also supports other ways to collect signatures.

Bulk signing
Send the same document or template to multiple recipients at once, without creating each signing request individually. This is useful for recurring documents such as agreements, forms, or approvals.

Public signing links
Create a shareable signing link that anyone with the link can use to access and complete a signing request. This is useful when you don't want to send individual signing invitations by email.

See the relevant guides to learn how to use Bulk signing and Public signing links.
