Draft templates
A Draft is a template that you have started preparing but have not yet made ready for use. Drafts let you save your work and return to it later without making an incomplete template available for signing.
A draft may still need fields, signer roles, field configuration, or other setup before it can be used in a signing request.
How drafts work
When you save a template while it is still being prepared, it is kept as a Draft and appears in the Drafts section of Templates.
Draft templates:
- Are not available for creating signing requests.
- Can be opened and edited to continue the setup.
- Remain separate from your ready-to-use templates.
- Are clearly marked with a Draft status.
Complete and publish a draft
Open the draft and finish preparing the template.
Depending on the document, this may include:
- Adding the required fields.
- Assigning fields to the appropriate signer roles.
- Configuring field properties.
- Setting field visibility where multiple signers are involved.
- Adding any other required template settings.
Once the template is ready, select Publish.
A published template becomes available when creating a signing request.
Delete a draft
If you no longer need a draft, you can delete it. The deleted template is moved to Template Trash, where it can be restored if it is still within the available recovery period.
Draft vs. published template
The important difference is whether the template is ready to be used for signing:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Draft | The template is still being prepared and cannot be used to create a signing request. |
| Published | The template is ready to be used for creating signing requests. |
A draft is therefore not a different kind of document. It is simply a template that is still being prepared.
