Signing scenarios
Internal approval workflow
Before you start
- The document requiring approval.
- The approval chain: who must sign in what order.
A typical example
Requester → Manager → Department head. A signature chain that turns approval into a verifiable record.
The workflow
- Create a multi-signer template.
- Set the approval order.
- Send and let the chain run.
- Confirm completion.
Step 1: Create a multi-signer template
Build the template with a role for each approver. See Add signers.
Step 2: Set the approval order
Use sequential signing so each approver acts in turn, the department head can't sign before the manager.
Step 3: Send
Send the request. Each approver is notified only when it's their turn, keeping the chain clean.
Step 4: Confirm completion
The document completes when the final approver signs. The audit trail records the full chain as approval evidence.
What happens next?
Approvals are now explicit, ordered, and recorded, no more "who's still on this?" See Track a signature request.
