Collect information before signing
Before you start
- A template with fields you already have the data for.
- The values at hand: names, account numbers, dates.
A typical example
You enter customer name, account number, and property address → the customer receives a completed-looking document → the customer signs. No typos, no retyping, no fields for them to misread.
The workflow
- Add the fields to your template.
- Mark which ones you'll fill as sender.
- Enter the values when you create the request.
- Send: the signer sees the information already in place.
Step 1: Add the fields
In your template, add text and date fields for the information you hold. See Configure fields.
Step 2: Prefill at send time
When you create the request, enter the values into the fields marked for prefill. See Prefill information.
Step 3: Lock or leave editable
Decide whether the signer can edit what you've prefilled, or whether it's locked. Locking protects accuracy; editable suits fields the signer might need to correct.
Step 4: Send
Send the request. The signer reviews and signs, the information is already in place, so their job is just the signature.
What happens next?
Information collection and signing are now separate stages: you collect, they sign. This is the pattern behind faster, more accurate customer-facing documents.
